may the bluebird of happiness fly up your nose

Every spring the bluebirds pass through here. I LOVE them, and wish they'd stay, but they never do. Until this year. A pair is nesting in a piece of machinery near the garden. It's either me or my camera (I suspect the former), but I just cannot get a good photo. Sara and Kevin came for the weekend and I asked Kevin to please try and get a shot. Here's what he captured.I could just eat this photo right up. And, of course, reducing it to post on this blog does not do it one ounce of justice. Glorious, in my opinion!

surfin the rafters

Boose, the shop cat/chicken spa matron, seems to approve of the new greenhouse.
I think she must be able to smell the remnants of past "mousie" residents from when this was just an old shed. She certainly has no fear of heights or precarious positions.

Don't worry.... no cats were harmed in the filming of this video. Boose landed just fine.

greenhouse progress and hugs from Xena

If you've been following Art's blog, you know that our latest project is converting an old shed into a greenhouse. Winter keeps creeping back in on us, so some days we're wearing t-shirts and some days longjohns. Yesterday was a little of both. In the morning....

a few hours later....

Progress is coming along nicely.

what is wrong with this picture?

Well, let's see.....it's the 4th of May, minus 5 celcius..... and snowing! The hummingbirds arrived 2 weeks ago (quite a bit earlier than usual) and they just might be regretting that. I had the feeder up and waiting for them, but on the day they arrived it was frozen solid! If I were them I mighta stayed in Mexico just a little bit longer.
