cooler heads

I am eternally grateful that this blasted heatwave has broken. At least, it has up here in Endako. Temperatures sure do jump around. We had nearly 2 weeks of 38C and then suddenly we get this .... Yesterday's high was 28, low of 3! Today we didn't even get to 20C. I actually had to put pants on (instead of shorts .... I know what you're thinking!).

Some things that like the heat (besides a few of you crazy people out there) are the sweet potatoes .... and the Saskatoon berries. Plump and juicy. Xena loves to pick them herself, right off the bush. Then Cleo gets in on the act. She likes them, too. Now the race will be on between us and the bears to harvest these yummy berries.Other things that are getting close to harvest are the cabbage .... and squash ....
These guys are being held in slings Art made from socks. The turnips are having a problem, though. Some dirty, rotten bugs are eating them.A good soaking of water and Ivory soap seems to have taken care of that. The potatoes get a squirt, too, just to be safe. What do you suppose this is that we found on our morning walk? Is it poo or is it a mushroom? It's a mushroom. We do get quite a variety growing in the cooler underbrush.

And you'll race with the bears for all the harvest I'm told. Seems berries in the hills fried in the heat we had this summer.

PS, Art was there in plenty o' time. Didn't see any of his relatives' names in the guest book though.

Hey JB, or should I say Endako Jo! This is PoCo Dave saying Hi from BBY. Just checking out your blog... looks good. Especially all that greenery stuff. The big city can be a bit much sometimes. I don't know if you were aware, but Helen Mundy died a few weeks ago. She had been hit by a truck near Xmas time, and she never got out of the hospital. The family had a memorial service, or more like a wake. The family was sorta expecting it, I think. BCH is doing pretty well, the budget has been slashed for IT 30-40% in the last year. All the temps and most of the consultants are gone. But that is just work, and who wants to talk about work? Not me and probably not you! My family is doing very well, I am now a grandfather and it hasn't really set in. No-one is calling me Gramps or anything, but when the girl Jayda starts, then it will hit me (I think). It looks like you are having a fine time doing what you are doing, and I'm envious. I wouldn't mind getting out of the rat race soon (or now). Anyway JB, take care and keep on updating your blog.
